Kisimul School is situated in a large Georgian vicarage set in four acres of garden in a small Lincolnshire village, but within easy reach of A1, and the main Inter City line from London to the North-East.
The house and school are well equipped and the bedrooms bright, warm and friendly. There is a soft play area, an adventure playground and a large indoor swimming pool.
The aim of the school is to provide a warm caring environment in which a child can flourish and be able to develop skills to his full potential. House and school staff work as a team to provide a consistent 24 hour approach. Each child has a school programme based on an assessment of his needs, and in which parental views are considered to be an important part of the process. An emphasis is placed on providing a stimulating and rich environment, including such activities as canoeing, horse-riding, ten pin bowling, as well as outings to zoos, theme parks and theatres. Children can join Scouts or Guides or Venture Scouts and weekend activities associated with these add to the busy pattern of life at the school.
Most teachers working at the school have extra qualifications for working with children with special needs or many years experience. Classroom assistants have City and Guilds Classroom Support Certificates, NNEB or other suitable qualifications and experience and Care Staff have NVQs. Most staff are of very long standing and staff turn-over is low.
Special needs catered for: Severe and complex learning difficulties with challenging behaviours.
The school offers a very high staff ratio (1:1 for autistic children and higher for those with very special needs), small groups at all times, a consistent 24 hour approach and speech therapy.
The school provides residential care for 50 weeks per year and is committed to a non-aversive approach.
We follow a broad and balanced curriculum including a modified National Curriculum.
A chartered educational psychologist works with the pupils on a weekly basis.
